snapshots of my life: week 52

yikes, i almost missed my last post of the year! time to say hello to 2015. here is what the past week looked like...

i spent the 22nd and 23rd in the library correcting assignments. this book was an interesting distraction.
christmas morning. first gift spotted: book on rocks and minerals!
next stop stocking!
remote control monster truck.  santa outdid himself this year!
this face is saying: great, another book.
nerf gun with holster
lego artic from gaga and buppa!!!
the wreckage
a lovely reminder of our dear gaga and buppa
explaining the disneyland memory book to papa
alan got jenga! and is pretty excited about all the toys too
a stack of people is always a welcome addition during vacation - thanks gaga and buppa
peeps from our good friend ann
what i didn't capture is the second right after this when he fell backward and took a nasty spill to the bottom. a boy watched the whole thing and admonished "you're not allowed to climb up the slide."
a butterfly like this at the end of december? i wasn't sure whether to leave it in or put it outside. i decided on the latter but then regretfully thought it might be too cold for such a fragile little thing
anatole found it and insisted on having his picture taken next to it.

if you ever meet a dane, ask them to define "hygge." it is somewhat close to "cozy" but represents much more. it just might be the country's favorite word other than rugbrød.
boy near the aarhus music hall. i spent friday in arhus, visiting the library to borrow children's books in english and to shop
aros museum, aarhus.
whale sculpture
aros sign for the michael kvium exhibit. the snow has been hauled in for a man made snow park.

snapshots of my life: week 49

only one picture to show for the week.  i think our tower of holiday gift boxes looks an awful lot like a tree.

our system improves every year. now we've got to haul them to the car and brave the lines at the post office!

snapshots of my life: week 48

the week involved intensive learning, writing, and being in a bit of a pressure cooker environment with 16 others at an arvon short story writing course. i think that's why all but one of my pictures is without human beings. i needed to escape into the landscape and scenery.

northern rail train stop. i took a taxi from hebden bridge to heptonstall where the course took place.
heptonstall countryside
the turn down to lumb bank, the house where the course was held.
the quarter of a mile steep and narrow drive down to lumb bank
entrance
the frontside of this 18th century millower's house that was once owned by poet ted hughes
the backside (this picture was borrowed from the internet)
the view from my window
the view from the edge of the property
just to see the name t.s. eliot gives me a charge
between the buildings
the same place as above but from behind
back garden
mini window found on the driveway down to the property
view from the top, headed into heptonstall for a walk
more of the landscape
entering hepstonstall village
a rather cheeky car parked outside a very formal looking elementary school
stillness
local pub
under the menu it reads "in a warm traditional environment"
tin foil man
cloth hall goes back a few years
the square leading to the church and cemetary
this the where the american writer sylvia plath is buried. the church was built in the 1800s and is victorian gothic
arches upon arches
there are ruins that date back to the 13th century
the low down
ivy covered headstones
this is the section of the graveyard where plath is buried. it was not easy to find her.
a humble presentation
view from near the church
aalborg airport. this sign hit me over the head that i need to do my danish homework.
